Established in 2008, Sattal Forest Resort is a modern dwelling in Sattal, the undisturbed natural jewel of Uttarakhand. Overlooking the Sattal Lake, the Resort offers exciting Bird-watching tours of 200 bird species like the Russet sparrow, Kalij pheasant, Oriental white-eye, common flameback woodpecker, the powdery blue verditer flycatcher and many more. Come and experience nature with organized forest treks and boating and fishing expeditions to the Sattal.

The resort itself is rich in flora with over 80 varieties of flowers, herbs and trees recorded until date. Our four cottages, namely Pine Cottage, Woodville Cottage, Taruwar Cottage and Deodar Cottage all have private gardens where this beauty can be experienced in peace.

Our Restaurant, the Forest Bistro is operational from 7:30 AM to 10:30 PM, 7 days a week.
The restaurant welcomes both direct dining and in-house guests.
Our in-house guests can enjoy a meal while enjoying the view of the Sattal Lake. Our menu includes a wide variety of North and South Indian Food. We also provide Continental food on special request with 24-hour notice.

We use fresh and in-season vegetables for the preparation of food so that our guests can wholly experience the Sattal life.

We also have an impressive snack menu with delectable finger-licking snacks, which is also available for room service.
Our Story
The promoters, Mateti Upender and Usha Upender first discovered this untouched location way back in 1999 and immediately fell in love with its pristine beauty.

They first made a small cottage for themselves to explore the terrain and the possibilities.
​
Slowly, yet steadily, the 4 main cottages came to be over the course of the next decade!
Very quickly, the charming 2 bedrooms Pine Cottage was conceptualized and commissioned within 2 years. It added so much beauty and grace to the surrounding that the promoters were encouraged to develop it further so that more people could come and experience this piece of heaven.
Next came Deodar Cottage with it´s 4 rooms, reception, common and dining area in 2008! The resort was thriving and more guests started to fall in love with our location and facilities!
Later joined by other nature lovers, they put together 2 more beautiful Cottages, altogether providing 12 very well appointed modern dwellings in the forest setting.
By year 2009, the homely and most admired Taruwar Cottage was commissioned, whose interior was done lovingly by designer Meenakshi Gupta to bring a different flavor to the dwelling, giving it a homestay feel within the first class services of a Resort.
By 2010, the Woodsville Cottage, truly surrounded by the Pinewood forest was ready to give our guests an absolutely private experience, within the Resort complex. This cottage is unique because it´s pet friendly with a large private garden perfect for home stays!
All rooms are lake facing and have private balconies to enjoy the views. All cottages have a living room, private garden and dining room. The Resort has a fully functional restaurant called the Forest Bistro, dishing out healthy, wholesome and freshly cooked meals to the travelers who choose to stay with us or are just visiting the lakes and its many attractions, or are just passing.
In 2010 the promoters were inundated with many hotel chain offers to run the Resort and finally, they succumbed to allowing V Resorts to run the plan on management contract.
This arrangement did well for a few years, not so well in subsequent years and ultimately collapsed.
Soon thereafter Covid stuck and Resort went for a compulsory lock down for 6 months.
In Aug 2020, the promoters were back with renewed vigour and driven by their immense love for the place, opened the Resort after complete renovation shortly thereafter.

Since then our loyal guests have showered their praise and good wishes on the Resort as is evident from the glowing independent reviews posted by them on Google and TripAdvisor. We feel blessed to have chanced upon this beautiful location and further to have been able to create a lovely comfortable holiday destination for our discerning guests.
